Traditionally people can only achieve this V shape face by going under the knife for jaw reduction surgery and chin implantation. Long recovery period and surgery related complications had rendered more and more people to opt for non-surgical methods to achieve similar look.
Appropriate dose of BTX is precisely injected into the jaw chewing muscle (masseter muscle) on both sides of our lower jaws to cause muscle weakness and shrinkage in size. The end result is a slimmer and more youthful V shaped face. This simple procedure can also benefit patients with migraine headache and teeth grinding (bruxism) as it relaxes the overall jaw muscles tension.
Jaw muscles are a group of powerful muscles especially in patients suffering from bruxism. Their muscle mass bulk up and increase in size overtime due to daily teeth grinding at night causing the face to turn squarish. BTX treatment can weaken the jaw muscles and makes the jawline look softer and slimmer.
BTX is injected directly into the masseter muscle on both sides of the face. The duration of treatment is less than 15 minutes. Usually no anaesthesia is needed as most patient tolerates the procedure very well.
As compared with conventional BTX treatment areas such as Frown lines, Forehead lines or Crow’s feet, it will takes around 2-3 weeks to start to see the effect and 4-6 weeks to achieve maximal result.
Results can last between 4-6 months depending on grinding habits and metabolism rate. Patients usually repeat the procedure every 6 months to maintain the desired effect. Decreasing BTX dose is often used for subsequent 6 monthly treatment.
Yes. It is advisable to combine BTX jaw slimming treatment with other non-surgical facelift treatments such as HIFU, thread lift or dermal filler (chin) to achieve a more significant lifted and youthful V shape face.
The most ideal candidate for Dermalift is patient with mild to moderate signs of aging and with relatively good muscle tone. Individuals with severe signs of aging and skin laxity are not suitable for this procedure and other treatments such as thread lift or HIFU might be advised.
The purpose of Dermalift is to rejuvenate the face holistically. You can generally expect improvement in your Forehead wrinkles, Frown lines, Wrinkles around the eyes, Brow lift, Lifted midface, Facial Contouring, Defined jawline and chin contour as well as Improved neck wrinkles and skin laxity.
Most patients are able to notice subtle improvement in the above areas immediately after the procedure. Best result is seen in around 2 weeks time. Dermalift can be done every 3-4 months to maintain the desired appearance. Most patients report better and longer lasting result with each subsequent repeated treatment.
Dermalift is generally well tolerated and no associated downtime. Some common injection site related side effects are pain, redness and swelling which will usually subside in few hours. Bruising might occur as well due to multiple injection sites. Cold compression might help in this case. Some rarer side effects and complications are drooping eyelid and asymmetrical smile.
Please remain upright for at least 4 hours after the procedure to avoid diffusion of BTX to unwanted areas. Do not massage the area for at least 5 days. We also advise to avoid alcohol, hot sauna and strenuous exercise for 72 hours after the procedure. Make up can be applied the next day.
Our chin plays a vital role in determining facial attractiveness. We Asian tend to have short and receded chin as compared with our Western counterpart. Tradition-ally people will opt for surgical chin implantation to correct this facial deformity. Surgery related complications may occur and long recovery time may be needed. However technology has improved and people nowadays can own a new strong chin with just a simple procedure in less than 30 min.
Chin filler can be temporary (last between 9-12 months) or semi-permanent (last up to 2-3 years) depending on the product being used. Some commonly used filler products are Hyaluronic acid based filler (Belotero Intense, Juvederm Voluma, Restylane Volyme) and Calcium hydroxyapatite based filler (Radiesse) for chin augmentation. Hyaluronic acid based filler is reversible and will be absorbed by your body eventually causing the chin to go back to original appearance. Regular chin filler injection is recommended to maintain the desired appearance.
Topical anaesthesia numbing cream is applied onto the treatment area for 15-20 minutes before the treatment. 1-3 injection points are needed to administer the filler product into your chin. Subsequently minimal moulding is done to achieve the best natural result. Lastly, antibiotics cream is applied onto the injection points to prevent infection
Most patients tolerate the procedure very well due to prior topical anaesthesia ap-plied and also the injected dermal filler contains lidocaine which adds to the com-fort during and after the procedure.
Most side effects of chin fillers are minor and temporary related to injection such as redness and swelling. This is perfectly normal and will usually subside after a few hours. Cold compress can be applied to reduce the swelling. Other minor ad-verse effects are bruising and mild pain. Some other rarer side effects are lumpi-ness, migration of filler, allergy and infection.
Yes. It is advisable to combine chin filler with other non-surgical treatments such as HIFU, Jawline filler, Masseter BTX or thread lift to achieve a more significant facial improvement.
